Happy Memorial Day

We took Elizabeth to see the Portland Sea Dogs play the New Britain Rock Cats today--her first minor league baseball game! She was very excited to go, but said at the outset that she did NOT want to meet Slugger, the Sea Dogs' mascot, nor did she want to meet the Trash Monsters. All that changed once she entered the ball park! She was really interested in Slugger throughout the game but, when given the chance to meet him up close, passed. When the game was over (the Sea Dogs won, 15-11, by the way), she left with her very own stuffed Slugger! Too cute! She loved the music, the food, particularly the Sea Dog biscuits (vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies) and Nanny's fried dough, and stomping her feet. The weather was breezy and in the 70s--just a perfect day.

Odds and ends

I know that I haven't posted for a few days, but our life simply is not that exciting--no one really wants to read about our morning battles over what Elizabeth will wear (Elizabeth prefers dresses; I like to mix it up a little) or our trips to Walmart or doing puzzles or reading before bedtime...Last weekend, we met new friends for ice cream at a local farm that sells homemade ice cream from an old caboose. Absolutely scrumptious! They brought their daughter home from China in December. We had a great time--Elizabeth wants to do it again this weekend! We'll see...I think I can be easily persuaded...Elizabeth now weighs 36.5 lbs...We also planted tomatos, string beans, and cucumbers in four large cedar planters. I wanted to try container gardening this year with vegetables because I just hate weeding. This weekend, we'll buy flowers for our windowboxes and for several other (smaller) cedar planters and plant those. See? Not very exciting (but quite wonderful in its very ordinariness). Here are a couple photos from this past week: Elizabeth with Bob, our cat, and with the terrific Mother's Day gift that she made at preschool.
