our Sunday

Before heading up to the grandparents' this afternoon, we had brunch at one of the chain restaurants in Windham.  While waiting to be seated, I looked over and saw Jack, holding the payphone receiver up to his ear.  He appeared to be listening intently.  I thought he was pretending to talk on the phone.  Silly me.  A few minutes later, a uniformed police officer walked in the door.  He stopped to chat with the kids and me (I know him through work) and then asked the hostess if everything was ok?  Apparently, someone had called 9-1-1 from the restaurant lobby moments before.  Gulp.  Another teachable moment...The first thing Jack did when we arrived at Nanny and Papa's was to ride his ATV for a little bit.  Look at that grin!  Elizabeth immediately wanted to go canoeing, so the kids and I went out with Papa for an hour or so before dinner.  This is her new "favorite thing to do."

summer fun

this is how he started his day--still in his pjs!

Elizabeth (in purple) with some of her Brownie troop.
Laura, the little girl in the blue bathing suit, was in daycare with Elizabeth when they were babies.

this lump is Jack, who took a nap while we were there

Elizabeth's Brownie troop went to Splashtown today, and the Brownies' families got to go, too.  This was our first time at Splashtown and certainly won't be our last--we had a great time!  We arrived at 10 am and spent most of our time swimming in the pool and splashing in the wading pool.  We had the most fun, however, going down one of the water slides on rubber floats.  Jack and Elizabeth went down together on one float first, and I followed.  When I reached the bottom of the slide, I found them, grinning ear-to-ear and telling me "that was AWESOME!"  We went down that slide several more times before leaving, exhausted, at 5 pm.  We ended the day with ice cream at Toots--it was another perfect summer day.

we went to Storyland today

All three of us thought this underground tunnel was exactly like the one in the Harry Potter movie

It was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing and, because we got a bit of a late start, arrived after lunch.  It didn't seem to matter.  All of us absolutely love this place--it's straight out of the 1950s and is a perfect place to spend the day with your children.  Not pictured:  riding on the Polar Coaster, spinning in the Crazy Barn, getting soaked on Dr. Geyser's Remarkable Raft Ride, or our two trips down the Bamboo Chutes.  We did a lot in six hours!
