Memorial Day photos

Nanny, Papa, Jack, and I watched Elizabeth and her Brownie troop march in Cumberland's Memorial Day parade.  We stood next to a very nice lady and her Westie, and Jack struck up a conversation with her.  She asked him how old he was and whether he was going to kindergarten in September.  His reply?  Yes, but I have to have "gradulation" first.  :)
The Brownies in Elizabeth's troop were asked to bring some fresh flowers from home (Elizabeth brought some bearded iris picked from our flower garden), and they left them on some of the graves in the cemetery at the end of the parade route.  She asked Jack if he wanted a piggyback ride back to the car, and he said yes.  All was well until I lifted him onto her shoulders instead of onto her back...oh, my!  The tears just rolled down his cheeks.  My Bad Mommy moment:  I took a picture before  helping him down...

growing up so fast...

He looks like a little boy now--all ready for kindergarten in the fall.  The day after he turned five, he told me that he was going to get on the school bus with jie jie to go to school.  He was absolutely crestfallen when I told him he had to wait until September...I think he thought, because I'd told him he would go to kindergarten when he turned five, that that meant when he turned five.

So, Jack had pictures taken at the mall today--here's one that I took while we were waiting...

the art show

We went to Elizabeth's school this evening to see some of what she's done in art class this year.  She was just the tiniest bit excited...I am so proud of her!

a little poem by Elizabeth

My Brother Jack
by Elizabeth

My brother
I make a lot of
silly videos with
him!
Sometimes he can
be really annoying
or he can be
really nice!
And he is ALWAYS watching
Sponge Bob Square Pants
My brother can
be awesome!
I love my brother
Jack
He can be
wild
or
My brother can
ROCK!

She drew hearts at each of the four corners of the paper and wrote, "Awesome brother" and "World's Greatest Brother...JACK!" around the edges.  All I could say was, Awww...!

a Mommy and me day

Let's see...a haircut for Jack, an oil change for Mommy's minivan, a little shopping and a bite to eat, and just enough time to play on the playground at Deering Oaks before picking jie jie up at school.  Another perfectly ordinary, absolutely terrific day!

recital

Elizabeth's dance recital was today!  Nanny came, but not Papa (he went to my niece, Abby's, dance recital in Massachusetts, which was today as well).  The grandparents split up this year, so each granddaughter would have a grandparent in the audience).  He was really missed!  Halfway there, I realized that I'd forgotten our tickets...we decided that Nanny would help Eliizabeth get ready for dress rehearsal before the show while Jack and I drove home to get the tickets.  As we were heading out the door, we ran into Glenn Davis, the son-in-law of the owner of the dance school.  He said not to leave--that he would just give us tickets for other seats.  So, so nice!  Everything went perfectly after that.  We ate lunch at Bugaboo Creek to celebrate and then came home.  And just a few other random things:  Jack has been going around telling everyone that "Mr. Glenn" and Gavin (his best friend at preschool) are his best buddies...Elizabeth now wears a size 3 shoe!...I signed Jack up for flag football in the Fall...

Happy 5th Birthday, Sweet Boy!

This was his third cake--we sang Happy Birthday! to him and he blew out the candles at 7 am this morning because we came home so late last night from Boston...

Mother's Day at the Franklin Park Zoo, Boston

the reptile house was called "slitherin," which (given Jack's love of all things Hary Potter) I thought was particularly funny!

Jack, Elizabeth, my parents, and I spent Mother's Day in Boston at the Franklin Park Zoo...
