the Tooth Fairy came last night!

"Look, Jack--this is where my tooth used to be!"



Elizabeth lost her first tooth yesterday while at the dentist! Elizabeth's two bottom front baby teeth, though quite wiggly, stubbornly refused to fall out as her permanent teeth came in behind them, so she had what dentists call shark teeth (a double row of teeth) there. The dentist told her at her last appointment that if they did not come out by her birthday on October 26th, then she would "help" them out for her. Elizabeth was afraid that loosing her teeth was going to hurt, so she was not too anxious for them to fall out. Fast forward to her appointment yesterday...to help with the pain, the dentist put some numbing gel on Elizabeth's gums and told her to wiggle her loose teeth back and forth. She did, and within a few minutes, one of the lower front incisors fell out. For a few seconds, no one could find it (it had fallen back into her mouth). Not to worry. We left with it securely tucked inside a tiny pink plastic treasure chest. Elizabeth put it under her pillow before she fell asleep. The dog woke me up around 11 pm, asking to go out--perfect opportunity for the Tooth Fairy to do her magic! I'd just taken the little treasure chest and was just about to slip $2 under her pillow when she woke up. Usually, when she wakes in the middle of the night, she rolls over and is asleep again in the blink of an eye. Not last night! She sat straight up and stuck her hand under her pillow, fishing around to see if the Tooth Fairy had come. I'd just managed to slip my hand out from under the pillow before she sat up. When she discovered the money, she smiled and said, "Look, Mommy!" She was so excited and very pleased--so cute! She was a bit disappointed to find that her tooth was gone, but I think she thought it was a fair trade. I asked her if she saw the Tooth Fairy--she said no. I said I'd gotten up because Duncan woke me up. She's convinced that Duncan saw the Tooth Fairy and in his excitement woke me up. The pictures were taken last night before bedtime.
